Like the website that hosts it, this blog is only concerned with using art and brief texts to uncover the bias and other limitations of thought conditioned by memory and tradition, thus also revealing how this largely unacknowledged tribal egotism that affects all human beings creates and sustains the systemic disorder and violence of the world in which we all live.

Without a radical awakening to the immense distance between our mental and social reality and the truth, we are condemned to continue living in the same cruel division, conflict, and sorrow to which we ourselves sustain with our personal memories, thoughts, and desires.

ITHACA - STRANGE APPEARANCE OF THE SUN IN FEBRUARY - Photo Essay - 43

I had to run an errand in Ithaca, it was freezing, and the bus was late coming into Trumansburg; it finally showed up at 3:00. However, it was surprisingly sunny, and everything seemed to be glistening and happy to be seen, so I did not mind the wait. The bus turned out to be a brand new and whistling electric beast, and Bruce and his enormous guide dog were right by the door. Right next to me, I noticed a peculiar yellow/red/blue theme.
It took less than 10 minutes to have kind Sophie at the Frame Shop respond to my inquiry, and I was back out in the bright cold again with some time to burn. It was about 3:45, and the next bus back to Trumansburg was scheduled to leave at 4:48. I decided to walk towards the furthest bus station still within the town’s periphery and then around that picturesque part of town until it was time to catch my ride back home. All the photographs here (and quite a few others) were made during that brief span of time and, for a change, using my cell phone (not my usual third eye).
Under that bright sun, Ithaca was generous to the point of immodesty in exposing its beauty, weirdness, and highly attractive urban ugliness. A feast to my hungry eyes, and I hope to yours as well. Enjoy!
